Queensland police confirmed four individuals were wounded in a drive-by shooting outside a Loganholme venue on Friday night. Officers received reports of gunfire from a vehicle at 8:15 p.m. and responded to a licensed premises on Bryants Road. The vehicle involved was observed leaving the scene.
The four injured parties were transported to a hospital for assessment. Their conditions were being evaluated as of the latest police update. The venue, Fitzys Loganholme, was set to host the Logan City Titles Fight Night that evening.
Deputy Commander Chris Stream of Queensland police described the scene as confronting. He stated that several people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. The event was planned to showcase local boxing talent and serve as a community gathering.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven indicated that residents in the area expressed fear following the event. Raven told the Today program that the incident sent a shockwave through the local community. He noted that the area had not previously experienced a similar occurrence.
Raven said the night was organized to help steer children away from violence. He described previous events at the venue as family-friendly, often attended by many children. Raven stated that the organizer uses boxing to empower young people who might be going off the rails. He added that this outcome is the opposite of what the organizer intended.
The Logan City Titles team posted a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The organizers said they were heartbroken by the incident. They described the event as a showcase for local hard work and skills inside the ring. The statement noted that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the wider community.
Police said the offenders remain at large. Authorities stated they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. They urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them.
