Impeachment Bid Looms Over Hegseth
Democrats plan to force a vote on Hegseth's removal just after the midterm elections.

The Democrats in the US House of Representatives are preparing to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and they may move forward with this action if they come out of the upcoming midterm elections in a strong position, according to a recent report. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries indicated the party's intentions during a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month, when he said the party would 'run Pete Hegseth out of town' if it gained the majority. Other Democratic lawmakers have also spoken out against Hegseth, with Rep. Pramila Jayapal calling him 'incompetent and, frankly, corrupt,' and Rep. Jared Huffman describing him as an 'unhinged fanatic who should be impeached and removed from office.' The pressure on Hegseth is not only from Democrats, as Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, a critic of the war on Iran and of American aid to Israel, filed articles of impeachment against the defense secretary, accusing him of abusing his office by executing an order for hostilities against Iran without approval from Congress.
Massie has said he intends to force an impeachment vote shortly after the House returns to session on Nov. 9, the week after the elections. The impeachment talk in Washington comes as Hegseth's movements overseas draw scrutiny, with the defense secretary holding a covert meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Israel's Ovda air base on Monday, days before Israel's election. Reuters reported that Hegseth confirmed the visit took place, but he would not elaborate on the details of his conversation with Netanyahu. According to a KAN News report, the main topic of discussion at the meeting was Iran.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reportedly attended the sit-down. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and other senior Israeli officials were not invited, for confidentiality reasons. A vote on Hegseth's removal is now set for Nov. 9, just a week after the elections, as Massie aims to remove him from office. This shows that the impeachment bid is not only from one side of the political spectrum, but it is a growing movement that is being led by both Democrats and Republicans. The impeachment process is now in motion, and it may lead to the removal of the defense secretary from office. This is a major development in the political landscape, and it is being closely watched by many Americans.
