Latvia's National Armed Forces located the wreckage of a drone on Saturday, October 24, in the Alūksne district. The military announced the discovery after a one-week gap following the initial incident.

The aircraft likely entered Latvian airspace on October 18, according to armed forces data reported by European Pravda. The event first gained attention when residents reported a loud noise resembling an explosion. The National Armed Forces and the State Police immediately began searching for a crash site. They halted that two-day search because available data did not allow them to establish what had occurred.

Officials are now conducting an investigation into the event's circumstances. An internal review has also started to assess how the incident unfolded and the surrounding factors. The military confirmed that no civilians were injured and that civilian infrastructure suffered no damage. Officials stated that no further threats have been identified.

This discovery follows a similar event in neighboring Lithuania. On October 18, wreckage from a suspected drone was found in Juodžionys, within the Pasvalys district. Lithuanian authorities said the drone entered their airspace from Poland. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius stated that the aircraft contained explosives.

Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suggested the Lithuanian incident resulted from Russian electronic warfare measures. He added that Ukraine expressed regret over the event.
