BYD has set the starting price for its new ultra-luxury electric sedan at approximately $300,000, or 2 million yuan. The figure places the vehicle well above the brand's current highest-priced mass-produced model, the U8L, which starts at 1.45 million yuan. This pricing strategy signals a direct move into the market occupied by traditional luxury marques.

The company built its reputation on affordable vehicles, most notably the Seagull, a small hatchback that sells for under $10,000 in China. Over recent years, the automaker expanded its lineup to include three-row SUVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars. It now operates three distinct sub-brands, Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang, alongside its main Dynasty and Ocean families. Yangwang serves as the top tier of this hierarchy, acting as a showcase for the company's newest engineering efforts.

Earlier models in the Yangwang line utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which produces 1,300 horsepower. Those vehicles also featured the DiSus-X intelligent body control system, allowing the cars to jump or drive on three wheels. The new sedan represents a departure from the sporty, off-road focused models that previously defined the brand's flagship identity. It shifts the focus toward executive comfort and static luxury.

General Manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed this week that the car's global launch will occur in the United Arab Emirates. This decision skips the company's home market for the initial reveal. Hu released images of the vehicle undergoing testing last month. Although the car was disguised, reports indicate a length of approximately 5,500 mm, or 216 inches. The dimensions and shape align closely with the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

The sedan is expected to make its official debut later this month. Executive vice president Stella Li told Carwow.es last month that BYD's first vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries would debut in 2027. Industry observers infer the new sedan will be that first model, as it is reportedly the first to use such batteries. The car was also displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting support for megawatt charging infrastructure.

The vehicle features rear-hinged coach doors, a design choice not previously used by BYD. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, stated the car will feature disruptive technology but declined to provide specific technical details. The pricing places the sedan in direct competition with the Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach, marking a high-end expansion for a manufacturer historically associated with value-driven mass production.
