Maryland state leaders and business executives met on Tuesday to introduce a new strategy aimed at directing venture capital funds to local startups.
Senate President Bill Ferguson and TEDCO Chief Executive Troy LeMaile-Stovall presented the plan at the Entrepreneur Expo 2026. The event, held at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, drew more than 1,000 entrepreneurs and investors to the city's waterfront.
The proposal includes specific legislative and financial measures designed to accelerate the state's innovation economy. The strategy targets emerging companies in three key sectors: life sciences, artificial intelligence, and clean technologies. State officials stated the plan aims to create high-skill jobs within the Baltimore metropolitan area.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen financing networks for founders from minority and underrepresented communities. TEDCO leadership emphasized that combining public policy with strategic investment would allow Maryland to lead the future economy. "The combination of appropriate public policies and strategic investment is the engine that will allow Maryland to lead the economy of the future," the organization's leadership said.
Beyond business networking sessions and panels on company scalability, state authorities noted the strategy is intended to improve regional competitiveness against other tech hubs in the country. Detailed information on the state's financing agenda and speaker schedules is available on the TEDCO 2026 Entrepreneur Expo portal.
Additional resources on local venture capital opportunities and support programs for entrepreneurs are posted on the TEDCO Maryland YouTube channel. The event serves as a central hub for discussing the state's evolving innovation ecosystem.
