Two weather systems converging from the west will bring rain to Southern California this weekend. The weather pattern will disrupt Halloween festivities in Los Angeles and Orange counties, with precipitation beginning early Friday and intensifying through Sunday.

Light showers will fall under cloudy skies Friday morning. Forecasters expect less than one inch of rain on Friday. High tides will accompany the weather, keeping a coastal flood advisory in effect until 2 p.m. Friday. Water levels in Los Angeles County may reach 7.5 feet, while Orange County will see its highest tide around noon.

Clouds will persist through Saturday. Rain will become widespread by 6 p.m. that evening. Light showers will continue at 9 p.m. Heavier rain will arrive late Saturday and continue into Sunday morning. Most areas in Los Angeles and Orange counties will receive between 0.25 and 1 inch of rain. Some mountain slopes could see up to 2 inches. Rainfall rates will range from 0.10 to 0.33 inch per hour.

Meteorologist De Leon noted that the storm lacks major severity. "If this wasn't Halloween, this would just be a regular storm moving through," De Leon said. No watches or warnings are in effect for the storm. The chance of thunderstorms remains low.

De Leon advised residents to plan their activities around the rain schedule. "My recommendation for trick-or-treating is the earlier you can do it, the better," De Leon said. "The later in the evening it gets, the more the rain chance increases." Drivers should expect slippery roads as the rain progresses.

Rain is expected to taper off by Sunday afternoon. Most locations will see about a half-inch of total precipitation, while some areas could receive up to an inch over the two days. The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval will likely be dampened by the wet conditions.

Rain on Halloween is rare in Los Angeles. The last recorded Halloween rain in the city occurred in 2017, which produced only a trace amount. The last measurable rainfall on Halloween in Los Angeles happened in 2014, when the area recorded 0.25 inch.
