Anthropic has entered the crowded market of personal productivity tools with the release of Claude Duet, a new application designed specifically for professionals and small businesses. By launching this agent, the company aims to capture user attention in a sector where new competitors appear weekly. The move positions Anthropic against established rivals such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, signaling a strategic push to secure a foothold in the enterprise and semi-prosumer software landscape.

The primary differentiator for Claude Duet is its focus on business utility rather than personal assistance. Anthropic explicitly distinguishes the new tool from consumer-focused agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands or booking travel tickets. Furthermore, the application does not provide a real-time visual feed of its browser activity. Instead, the platform is engineered to manage complex professional workflows, offering features such as daily briefings, custom dashboard creation, and data-driven action suggestions tailored to the user’s specific operational needs.

Operationally, Claude Duet functions by executing tasks in the background within a dedicated virtual machine. This architecture allows users to continue their daily work while the agent processes requests independently. The system is designed to intervene only when necessary, returning to the user for approval on critical decisions. This approach aligns with the broader market trend of shifting from passive AI assistants to active agents that can execute multi-step processes on behalf of the user without constant supervision.

The launch comes as the artificial intelligence industry pivots toward business-centric use cases. While competitors like Meta have maintained a dual approach with both personal assistants and small-business variants, OpenAI has integrated its Dots product with professional tools to emphasize a business slant. Anthropic is following this trajectory by building Claude Duet on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. This foundation supports a robust ecosystem of integrations, allowing the agent to connect with more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace.

Monetization and transaction capabilities are central to the new offering. Claude Duet can execute online purchases on behalf of users through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. To maintain control, the company mandates that sensitive steps, particularly those involving payments, require explicit user approval. However, the agent’s financial powers are bounded; it is not authorized to trade securities or transfer funds between different accounts, a limitation intended to mitigate risk for business users.

Security remains a priority in the deployment of this tool. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier designed to scrutinize every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is programmed to decline requests that ask for highly sensitive data, such as credit card numbers or government identification details. This layer of protection addresses common concerns regarding data privacy in agentic systems that interact with various third-party services.

Claude Duet is currently available to the public through iOS and Android applications, as well as via the web interface on Claude.ai. Access is restricted to Pro and Max customers who are participating in a research preview. To manage the rollout and gather initial feedback, users must join a waitlist to gain access to the platform. This staged release allows Anthropic to refine the product experience before a broader general availability launch.

The introduction of Claude Duet highlights the intensifying competition among major AI players to define the standard for agentic software. By targeting the professional segment and leveraging extensive marketplace integrations, Anthropic is betting that business users will prioritize task automation and data management over simple conversational assistance. As the market continues to evolve, the success of this launch will likely depend on its ability to deliver reliable, secure, and efficient workflow management for its target demographic.
