A visitor to music.apple.com who requests a nonexistent page now encounters a fully interactive replica of the original iPod. The company introduced the physical music player on October 23, 2001, and the digital tribute marks the exact 25th anniversary of that launch date.

The feature appears when a user navigates to music.apple.com/ipod or enters any other missing path on the domain. Instead of the standard error message, the browser displays the classic white device on screen. The replica responds to mouse clicks on its physical buttons, allowing users to navigate a set of pre-installed tracks.

The scroll wheel functions as it did on the hardware. Users can click and drag the wheel to move through the playlist. The library contains songs from artists who were popular in 2001. Selecting a track plays a 90-second preview directly within the web interface, requiring no separate application.

A user identified as Kian on X first reported the discovery. The easter egg serves as a nostalgic reference rather than a product announcement. Apple has not released a dedicated portable music player in recent years, and the web version offers a way to revisit the original design and user experience.

There is no indication that Apple plans additional hardware releases for the anniversary. The company currently offers Apple Music for $11.99 per month, or as part of the Apple One bundle. The web tribute allows users to experience the original interface without purchasing new hardware.
