Apple plans to unveil a completely redesigned MacBook Pro on October 28 at an event titled "Pro and tell." The new machine will use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max processors that debuted nearly eight months ago, meaning users will not receive a boost in processing power.

According to reports, the laptop will feature a new industrial design that is both lighter and slightly thinner than current models. The display is expected to switch to OLED technology and will support touch input, a first for the MacBook Pro line. The notch at the top of the screen is slated for removal, replaced by a Dynamic Island. A C2 cellular modem is also rumored, though this feature remains less certain.

Mark Gurman, whose reporting on the device was cited by 9to5Mac, noted that Apple is skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max processors entirely. The company is instead fast-tracking the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips for release in 2027. This strategic gap places the new hardware in a transition period between chip generations.

Pricing remains a point of speculation. The current MacBook Pro is already a high-end product, and analysts suggest the design overhaul could carry a premium. One estimate places the starting price at approximately $2,999. This would mean consumers pay more for a device that offers no speed advantage over the models currently on sale.

9to5Mac considered the possibility that Apple might maintain the same price point for the new M5-based machines, replacing the existing lineup. However, the outlet described this scenario as unlikely due to the current memory crisis in the industry.

The company faces a marketing challenge as it attempts to persuade professional users who delayed purchases earlier this year to adopt the new model. The decision to rely on existing silicon while introducing major hardware changes creates a complex value proposition for buyers.

Apple has not yet confirmed the specific details of the redesign or the pricing structure. The October 28 event will determine how much of the reported information is accurate and how the company positions the new device in the market.
