Apple TV subscribers in the United States can now hear Formula 1 races in Dolby Atmos.
The upgrade began on Friday, October 23. Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier in the month. The United States Grand Prix is the first Formula 1 race to air in this format.
Apple designed the audio mix to place viewers at the center of the event. The system captures team radio, commentary, and engine sounds. It also includes on-track battles and pit lane activity. The company pairs this sound with Dolby Vision visuals for color and clarity.
First practice concluded before the audio update took effect. Subscribers can still watch the remaining weekend sessions. Practice 2 airs on Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 follows on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying begins on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. The main race starts on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.
Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The location recently welcomed Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday. They appeared there for the iPhone Duo launch.
Apple also updated Apple Maps for the event. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin. This includes a 3D map of the Circuit of The Americas. The map displays turn numbers, grandstands, and landmarks to assist fans with navigation.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month. It is also part of the Apple One bundle. The streaming service offers titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
