With two days remaining until Halloween, eight local retailers in Miami are extending operating hours and expanding inventories to serve shoppers who have delayed their costume purchases. These businesses, ranging from vintage boutiques to specialized pop culture shops, offer alternatives to major chain stores by providing unique, handmade, or niche options. The shift reflects a local preference for independent retail and specific aesthetic choices over standardized mass-market goods.
Cosplay Miami, a new location in the Miami International Mall in Doral, operates until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shop, located next to Old Navy, stocks mannequins dressed as Wolverine, mini-Hulk, and Supergirl. It features anime wigs, dresses, and accessories for Mario and Fortnite characters. The store is positioned near a food court and massage chairs, catering to families and indecisive shoppers.
In Wynwood, Dolls Kill, one of only three brick-and-mortar locations in the United States, is open daily from noon to 8 p.m. The store offers costumes with specific names such as "Bite the Boyfriend" and "Frankenfine." Customers can place online orders of $75 or more for free in-store pickup. Meanwhile, La Casa De Los Trucos in Little Havana, which has operated for more than 50 years, is open daily until 8 p.m. The shop sells current costumes, including those for K-Pop Demon Hunters, alongside vintage items and makeup.
Goodwill of South Florida is running a campaign called "Halloween Lives Here," which includes influencer spotlights and contests. The organization promotes thrifted clothing and vintage finds as a way to create unique outfits without high costs. In Miami Shores, Princess Fantasy, opened in 2024 by Argentine designer Alejandra Fabiana Curac, sells handmade children's costumes. The shop is open Monday until midnight, a later closing time than most other locations on the list.
Other options include Halloween Megastore on Lincoln Road in South Beach, which also recently opened a location on Brickell Bay Drive. The South Beach store sells costumes for humans and pets, including a Minions outfit for bichon frises. Miami Twice in Little Haiti is open until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, offering vintage and new styles for adults and children. Playthings Miami, a large adult store in Southwest Miami, extends its weekend hours to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Rupees, a Wynwood Indian fashion boutique celebrating its 30th anniversary, is open daily until 6:30 p.m. and sells sarees and jewelry for customers seeking a Bollywood or Diwali theme.
