Apple will roll out iOS 27.2 next week, the first major software update available to all iPhone models since the launch of the iPhone Duo. This release expands several features that were previously limited to specific devices or user scenarios.

The primary change allows users to utilize both the front and rear cameras during Group FaceTime calls. The Dual Capture feature, introduced with iOS 27, originally permitted simultaneous video feeds only in one-on-one conversations. With the 27.2 update, compatible iPhone models can activate the rear camera while keeping the front camera active for group sessions. Users engage the feature by tapping the Flip button during a call.

Apple Podcasts receives a structural overhaul of its Home tab. The existing Up Next queue is divided into two distinct sections. The top section, labeled New Episodes, lists the latest releases from shows the user follows. Directly beneath it sits a new section called Continue Playing, which aggregates shows that have been started but not finished. This layout aims to provide a clearer view of listening progress for users.

The Apple TV app gains user profiles for the first time on iPhone. While profiles have long been available on tvOS devices, this update brings the functionality to iOS. Upon first launch after the update, users encounter a profile selection screen. This screen can be disabled if desired. Once a profile is active, the app tailors content recommendations to that specific viewer. When a child’s profile is selected, the app restricts displayed series and movies to age-appropriate Apple content.

The update also includes new features in six other iPhone apps, according to reports. The release follows iOS 27.1, which was restricted to the iPhone Duo. By offering these tools in 27.2, Apple extends capabilities such as multi-camera video and personalized media controls to a wider base of smartphone users.

Developer documentation for the update indicates the changes are finalized for the upcoming release cycle. The addition of profiles to the TV app addresses a long-standing gap between the iPhone and Apple TV ecosystems, allowing families to manage viewing preferences on a single device.
