Three tankers loaded with Russian diesel are currently navigating toward the eastern coast of the Atlantic Ocean, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. He stated on Friday that the vessels are part of a larger agreement to move 500,000 metric tonnes of fuel to global markets in October.

Novak attributed the logistical support for the shipment to the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The arrangement was announced earlier this month by U.S. President Donald Trump. Under the terms, Russia supplies diesel to lower fuel prices while the U.S. temporarily lifts sanctions on Russian fuel.

Reuters identified one of the vessels as the Malta-flagged Agioi Fanendes, which carries ultra-low sulphur diesel. The ship is scheduled to arrive in the United States on November 7.

The fuel movement coincides with a new diplomatic development in the war in Ukraine. The White House announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire in the city of Oleshky. Both sides will halt military operations in the Russian-occupied city starting October 27.

The pause in fighting aims to allow aid delivery and civilian evacuation. Oleshky has been under Russian occupation since February 2022. An estimated 2,000 residents remain in the city, where officials report severe shortages of food, water, and electricity.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Friday that technical-level meetings between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. will be held in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November. A U.S. official added that the three countries might meet again in a couple of weeks in either Abu Dhabi or Switzerland.

This diplomatic push follows recent tensions between Washington and Kyiv. Those tensions included limits on the Starlink communication system used by Ukraine. Trump stated on Friday that he would resolve any access issues, potentially by speaking with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that repairs to power infrastructure near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant are complete.
