Gemini Android: Five-Chat Limit Arrives in Server-Side Overhaul
The server-side update consolidates scattered preferences into a single page and restructures the navigation drawer.

Google is limiting the initial view of recent chats in the Gemini app for Android to five items. The change arrives via a server-side update, meaning users are receiving the new interface without needing to download a fresh version of the software. This rollout follows a recent shift that rebranded the Spark feature as Task.
The redesign restructures the side panel to streamline navigation. The search function has moved to the top-right corner. New chat remains the first entry in the list, with the Library option now positioned directly beneath it. Previously, the Library sat near the bottom of the drawer. The five-item cap applies to the initial display, with a "More" option available to expand the full list.
For AI Ultra subscribers, the expanded list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems. The company stated that the goal is to keep the navigation drawer from becoming crowded while still allowing access to recent conversations.
Google has also unified the app's settings. Previously, user preferences were split between the account menu and a separate Gemini Settings area. The new version consolidates these into a single page. The account menu now serves a narrower function, limited to switching accounts, leaving feedback, or accessing help.
The new Settings page opens with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. The Theme entry is the only new addition to this list. Two final sections cover Data & privacy and Get support, including options for Import memory, Contact info from your devices, and Privacy Help Hub.
The same interface changes reached iOS, macOS, and the web app last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now seeing the update arrive more broadly. Recent developments for the Gemini app also include Notebook becoming a Connected App and the introduction of a Map tool as the slash shortcut is replaced by an at symbol.
Free users are moving to Auto models as the app adds thinking levels. The update is becoming widely available to Android users through the server-side push.
