OnePlus began distributing the stable Android 17 update to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India on Wednesday. This release marks the first time these specific flagship devices will run on ColorOS 17. The move officially retires OxygenOS, the custom software layer OnePlus used for years on its global phones.
The company originally planned to start the rollout on October 29. By launching on October 23, OnePlus accelerated the schedule by roughly one week. The update had been available to beta testers for some time. It is now open to all users of the two devices in the Indian market.
OnePlus stated that ColorOS 17 is built around the concept of "Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere." The company described the software as a way to make technology feel less demanding. It aims to help users turn ideas into finished work using artificial intelligence. The goal is to allow people to move between tasks and devices with less friction.
OxygenOS started as a near-stock Android experience with minor additions. Over time, it became a tuned version of Oppo's ColorOS for global markets. OnePlus announced the phase-out of OxygenOS after scaling back most of its global operations. Existing devices were told they would update to the Oppo-based software.
This first wave of updates covers only the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4. OnePlus has confirmed that other models will receive the update later. This includes previous generation flagships and several Nord models. The next scheduled wave is set for October 30 and will include the OnePlus 13.
The software is expected to reach other regions in the coming days. The company has not confirmed specific dates for those areas beyond the initial India launch. The timing follows a period of operational changes for the brand. Reports noted that the OnePlus 15 sold out in the United States after the company reduced its global footprint.
