Ukraine Satellite Bandwidth Returns to 400 km/h
Defence Ministry confirms stable connections after brief speed caps disrupted frontline logistics and drone operations.

Ukrainian military communications are operating at full capacity following the removal of speed limits on satellite internet services. The change restores data transfer rates for units along the front line, removing a bottleneck that had constrained logistics and drone deployment for several days.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the restoration in a video address on 24 October. He stated that Starlink and Starshield systems are now running at their pre-restriction levels. "Now we have the speed we need," Zelenskyy said, noting that the recovery began overnight.
Technical metrics confirm the shift. Before the cap was lifted, the Ministry of Defence recorded speeds between 130 and 161 km/h in key sectors. The ministry later verified that connections are now stable above 400 km/h. These figures align with the systems' standard operating parameters for military use.
The temporary slowdown had specific operational costs. Zelenskyy noted that the reduced bandwidth hindered the movement of supplies and limited the use of jet-powered Shahed drones. The restrictions created a gap in the data pipeline that the defence forces had to manage manually.
The timing of the cap has drawn political scrutiny. On 16 October, US President Donald Trump stated that the White House was not involved in the decision to limit access. Separately, reports indicate that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk proposed the bandwidth restrictions to the US president.
The ministry issued its official confirmation on 24 October, marking the end of the disruption period. The return to 400 km/h speeds allows for the immediate resumption of standard digital workflows for field commanders.
