The Vegas Golden Knights departed for a four-game Eastern Conference tour on Friday following a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The squad has registered only 11 goals across its last five matches, dropping four of those games.
The team’s offensive output has slowed considerably. Of the 11 goals scored during this stretch, just six were tallied during five-on-five play. The remaining five were generated on the power play or as empty-netters.
Coach Ryan Craig noted that the group continues to create chances but has struggled to convert them. Craig stated, 'We are creating some opportunities. We haven't finished as well.' He added that the players need to manage the puck and deliver checks to ensure goals are recorded.
This recent dip contrasts sharply with the start of the 2026-27 season. Vegas opened the campaign with an 8-2 record and scored 41 goals in those first 10 games, including 29 at even strength. A 4-1 victory over Ottawa on Tuesday was the lone win in the last five games, and even then, only one goal was scored during standard play.
Forward Ivan Barbashev said the roster has experience and will correct the issue. 'We've got to figure it out and get out of this slump,' Barbashev said. 'We'll be better.' The team currently sits one point behind Edmonton in the Pacific Division standings.
The Knights will play their next game Monday night in Boston. The road trip continues with stops in Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Buffalo. Craig plans for the team to practice on Saturday before heading east.
Craig emphasized the need for consistent execution. 'I think our execution from the last 10 days maybe hasn't been at the level we needed it to be,' Craig said. The team will use the upcoming games to push through the current difficulties.
