No. 3 Georgia and No. 17 Florida will play their annual rivalry game inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, October 31. The location change marks the first time since 1995 that the border foes will not meet at their traditional neutral site in Jacksonville. The move is necessary because EverBank Stadium is undergoing renovations that will keep it closed until August 2028.

The matchup carries weight in the national rankings, as this is the first time since 2020 that both teams have held spots in the top 20 of the AP poll. Georgia enters the game with a record of 6-1 and a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week following a home loss to Auburn. Florida, which is 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, is preparing for this contest after an October 17 road victory over Texas.

First-year Florida head coach Jon Sumrall has guided the Gators to two wins against top-10 opponents this season, defeating Ole Miss and Texas. A win against Georgia would place Florida firmly in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. Georgia has won the last five meetings in this series, but the Gators have shown the ability to compete with elite SEC teams. The Bulldogs must avoid losing two regular-season games in a row for the first time since Kirby Smart’s debut season in 2015.

Florida faces uncertainty at the quarterback position. Aaron Philo, the starter, is dealing with a right shoulder injury and was listed as questionable on the first student-athlete availability report this week. He practiced during the week but Sumrall said on Monday that he does not plan to name a starter before game time. Tramell Jones Jr. started in place of Philo against Texas, completing 22 of 35 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 41 yards. Georgia will prepare for both players, as Jones offers mobility while Philo provides a different offensive threat.

The run game will be a focal point for Florida. The Gators rushed for at least 200 yards in each of their first four games, which included victories over Auburn and Ole Miss. While their rushing efficiency has dipped in the last three games, star running back Jadan Baugh remains a major threat. Baugh leads the SEC with 13 rushing touchdowns and ranks third in the conference with 763 rushing yards. Georgia’s run defense has shown weakness recently, allowing Alabama 161 rushing yards and Auburn 192 rushing yards in the last two weeks. Before those games, the defense had been stout, making this a critical test for the Bulldogs.

The outcome will directly affect both teams’ playoff odds. According to the CBS Sports CFP Forecaster, a Georgia win would raise its chances of reaching the playoff to 94.5 percent. A loss would drop those odds to 72.7 percent. Florida currently has a 9.5 percent chance of making the field. An upset victory would increase that figure to 29 percent. If Florida loses, its chances fall to 5.6 percent, requiring wins against Oklahoma, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Florida State to keep a mathematical shot at a 9-3 record.

The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 31. It will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on Fubo. SportsLine’s computer model, which has gone 68-59 on top-rated college football picks this season, projects Georgia as a 12.5-point favorite. The model suggests Georgia will be motivated to bounce back from a turnover-heavy loss to Auburn, while Florida’s defensive vulnerabilities may be exposed by Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton.
